Enclosure & in Goverman's Secret Despatch of 28 July 1813.
This is for the information of you Po Shan. I cannot see that you have during your past life distinguished yourself in any other way than in flattering others, especially foreigners. I thought that when you were sent for by that offensive May to appear at the meeting held the other day, you would have some sound opinion to express, but on the contrary to our surprise you alleg- -ed that the tramway boycott was promoted by the upper classes, and societies had been formed for the purpose. At that time all those present on the first expression of your view desired to argue with you on the point, but they refrained from doing so merely in order
to save your face. Let me ask you who are the originators of these societies, where are these societies and what proof have you of their existence. On receipt of this letter you must publish in the papers for my information the proofs you have procured, otherwise I will show you no mercy. You are the only man who brings ruin upon us Chinese. The longer you remain in Hongkong, the longer we Chinese residents cannot enjoy peace. Indeed your fixity of pur- -pose cannot be questioned. The tramway boycott is but an under- -taking of individuals, yet that offensive May caused an ordinance to be enacted by the Government. What concern has the Government with the Tramway boycott? Yet instead of putting forth any argu- -ment against the enactment of the Ordinance you on the other hand act with hostility towards us Chinese residents; and in fact you have conferred no single benefit on your fellow-countrymen. Why do you despise your fellow-countrymen so much? Have you not been informed that the wife of your younger brother carries on the business of a sly prostitute every night? Indeed your history is too dirty for my pen to describe. In fact you deserve to die for the various actions you have done. low in conjunction with our fellow countrymen I have determined to see whether you or we have to die first and to know how long you can enjoy the happiness of being a cuckold. The reason that I give you this previous notice
is merely because of the distant relation I have with you.
Chan Hon Tat.
